This is the first picture of Kian that everyone saw in an email we sent to family and friends. I decided to spike up his hair and it soon became his signature trademark. Kian has darling hair and lots of it. His sides were shaved which must be the style in the area he came from and he did have a round bald spot on the back of his head. He is darling and ready for the day!!
We had to head back to the Zhengzhou Public Office to finalize the adoption. We had 24 hrs to decide if we were going to keep Kian. There was never a doubt in my mind. He was our son and we are head over heels in love with this little boy.
This is Kian on the same couch we found him on yesterday. You can see Jeff's badge, we had to wear those in Zhengzhou at all times. Henan Provence has only been doing adoptions for the past two years so people there are not used to seeing white people with Chinese babies. So, we wore these badges and they said,"My name is Jeffrey/Brittani Lots. I come to adopt Shi Jian Liang as my son. I live at Crown Plaza Zhengzhou."
Jeff tried again to get Kian to play with the toys but he did not want to. When Kian does not want to do something he arches his back and throws back his head and cries. He is doing this in the picture below. These fits got old very quickly. How did we deal with them? We gave him food, it was the only thing that got him to stop!!
After we went to this office we had to go to another office to sign some papers. This is where our adoption was finalized. We hiked the kids up six flights of stairs, no elevator. Sat in a very smokey room, signed the papers, took a picture and Kian is now officially adopted.
The day before we got Kian we were given some information about him. We were told that he ate wheat cereal, slept through the night, did not need food at night, did get up at night to use the bathroom, did not nap, did not like strangers and he did like cookies. This is all the information we got on him. I remember thinking he does not nap, oh great. Well, we soon learned that the information we got was a bunch of crap and most of it seemed wrong. Here is Kian napping on day 2, YAY!!!
After naps we took the kids to the Lotus market. It is the Chinese version of Wal-Mart. In the above picture you can see Kians shoes. They were like house slippers and tied with tiny ties around his ankles, they were horrible. So, we got him some new shoes. We had to make sure they were wide so they wouldn't hurt his sore toes. The Wal-Mart and Lotus were the favorite places on my China journey. I love the chip aisle and seeing all the different flavors like Seaweed and Hot Fish Soup flavor.
Kian had a really rough night tonight and cried and cried, he did fall asleep in my arms and this was very special, I feel like Kian is starting to trust me. I think the new food is hard on his tummy and he got a little backed up but we got him regulated quickly.
